Announcing a new partnership program between LSVI and the Downtown YMCA!

The downtown YMCA in Baton Rouge has established an alliance with LSVI to begin working with the students on various physical activities and exercise programs. Andres Miranda, Program Coordinator for the YMCA and professional soccer player, will be the instructor and facilitator for various activities, along with Lynn Gautreaux, Outreach Director at LSVI.

The first initiative will be biking. The YMCA has coordinated with a group of local businessmen, headed up by local attorney and YMCA board member Trippe Hawthorne. Trippe, along with other volunteers, will be refurbishing LSVI's tandem bikes at no charge to the school. Lynn Gautreaux will be training the participants and partners on safety and proper biking methods. Members of the YMCA will be training with the students initally along the 1.1 mile drive that surround the LSVI campus located on Brightside Lane.

The YMCA is planning to work with LSVI on future projects that include track and swimming. Both LSVI and theYMCA are excited about this new partnership.
