Meet the O&M Staff
LSVI's Orientation and Mobility Department is staffed by AERBVI Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists.
Blanche Faulk, O&M Coordinator, has a Bachelor's Degree in Child and Family Studies from the University of Louisiana - Lafayette and a Master's Degree in Orientation and Mobility from the University of Arkansas. She has worked at LSVI since 2007. Mrs. Faulk can be reached at 225-757-3489 or by e-mail: email@example.com.
Stacy Jena has a Bachelor's degree as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and a Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility from Northern Illinois University in DeKalkb, Illinois. Ms. Jena joined our staff in November 2013 and can be reached at 225-757-3489 or via e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our staff screens or assesses all students when they enroll at LSVI. Need for instruction is determined by the degree of vision loss, the student's functional use of vision in a variety of contexts, the degree to which vision loss affects safe travel and independence and whether the loss was caused by a condition that is progressive (will cause further loss of vision). The level of service is determined by professional judgment and the Michigan Orientation and Mobility Severity Rating Scale/Michigan Orientation and Mobility Severity Rating Scale for Students with Additional Needs.
Our staff provides a full range of services to our students. Most students begin their training on campus, then move into neighborhood travel and eventually begin their commercial area travel in downtown Baton Rouge. They are also given the opportunity to learn the skills needed to access public transportation, shop and make purchases at a variety of stores, access the Post Office and banks, seek assistance, etc.
